I’m a retired teacher who lives at the south end of South Carolina’s Grand Strand. Living at the Jersey Shore with my wife and three children for thirty years, I was overwhelmed by the beauty of the seascapes I witnessed daily, so I became an avid nature photographer establishing my own business TropicalViewz. I’m a member of the Sea Coast Artist Guild and the Waccamaw Artist Guild, and collaborate with my wife Maureen at art shows. She is an accomplished artist in several mediums, but her specialty is seashells.
Before retiring, I made the mistake of traveling to the Florida Keys. My wife claims I never returned the same person. For fifteen years, I’ve returned to the Keys and Key West where each year I explore the resources that have become the bedrock for my book Uncommon Mariners, the first nautical almanac of its kind.
With a deep passion for the sea, how could I not be attracted to Jimmy Buffett and his parrothead music. What could be more fun than going to a Jimmy Buffett concert and watching pirates and sharks dancing with parrots and mermaids. Can you believe there are 252 parrothead clubs worldwide?
Pirate expert and owner of the Pirate & Treasure Museum in St. Augustine Pat Croce once tweeted a comment I shared with him, giving me the moniker Barnacle Bill.
I’m a member of the South Carolina Writers Workshop and with the help of SCWW’s president Trilby Plants, I am establishing my presence on social media with LinkedIn, Face book (Writer’s Page), and Twitter. Come and visit me frequently, and experience mariners, pirates and various aspects of the sea while indulging your pirate spirit.
